My Bio
I was born in Hoboken, NJ just a block from the Hudson River and its amazing New York City skyline view. It seemed inevitable that I would wind up there for art school, receiving my BFA in Illustration at the School of Visual Arts and picking up on the traditions of my artistic family which includes a painter/sculptor, a fashion designer and a seamstress.

Making art was not necessarily encouraged in my household, it was expected. However I did not know I had a knack for drawing until I made a caricature of my teacher during class and made my classmates snort with laughter and almost get me into trouble. From there, inspiration grew. My sister's education in fashion design was an education for me through osmosis (a.k.a. sharing a bedroom).

I try to combine my love of hand drawing with the tidiness of design. However my tastes in design usually veer towards that of the pre-computer age where there is still some hand manipulation evident.

Through illustration I express my fascination with color, pattern and figures and weave them through whatever subjects I'm commissioned to draw or that capture my fancy. Lately my fancy's been caught up with the multitude of birds in North America. By observing the color combinations, shapes, sizes of these birds one can gain insight on the nature of the continent's diversity.

The artists at my altar include Maira Kalman (http://www.mairakalman.com/) for the poetry of her images, her loose but loving brushwork and bold color choices, Milton Glaser (http://www.miltonglaser.com/) for creating the iconic images of mine and future generations, and Charley Harper (http://grainedit.com/2008/02/25/charles-harper-illustrations-giant-golden-book-of-biology/) for drawing attention to the fascinating creatures among us in a beautiful, colorful, concise way. My freelance work clients includes magazines like Jane, Latina, Radar, Vibe Vixen and others. Recently I've been expanding my work to make murals, wedding invitations and other works outside of magazine editorials where I can take more control of the reins.
